Sébastien Cauet case: The Court of Appeal rules in favor of NRJ in its dispute with the host

Sébastien Cauet is suffering a new legal setback. As the commercial court did at first instance, the Court of Appeal ruled in favor, this Friday, November 15, of NRJ in the commercial dispute between it and its ex-host. At the same time last year, the group announced the withdrawal from the air of the presenter of “C'Cauet”, indicted for rape and sexual assault on four women, including three minors at the time of the events. To which the person concerned, who disputes the facts, initially responded with legal action to request his reinstatement. He finally abandoned this request and has since demanded the payment of 4.5 million euros in compensation for the termination of his contract.

“An unfair outcome” for Sébastien Cauet’s lawyer

“The NRJ group welcomes the decision rendered today by the Paris Court of Appeal, in the proceedings between it and Mr. Cauet and his companies, confirming the decision rendered at first instance by the Commercial Court, on 7 May 2024”is written in the press release sent just after the announcement of the verdict. For his part, the lawyer for Sébastien Cauet and his production company Be Aware, Me Frédéric Lamoureux, mentioned “a deep disappointment“faced with a decision “unfair”. He deplores: “This decision confirms the rupture brutally imposed by NRJ, which forced Be Aware to separate from all of its 24 employees. An unfair outcome, marked by the total absence of compensation and recognition of the work accomplished for more than 13 years of service to NRJ and its listeners.

Still placed under judicial control, Cécile de Ménibus' ex-companion can nevertheless practice his profession on radio and television “as long as there is no public”, according to the decision rendered by the courts on July 12. The advice of the former host of “The Cauet Method” on TF1 then insisted on the financial difficulties of his client, both deprived of his profession's emoluments and from whom a deposit of 100,000 euros was required. “This required deposit is unreasonable in view of the facts and the assets of my client”, had regretted the one who is one of the representatives of the former star host of NRJ.
