Friends or foes, “entities” invade the world
“Entities” brings together the ten new winners of the 2024 Prix de l’Ailleurs.
News – Since 2018, the Prix de l’Ailleurs has been breathing in the spirit of the times in its fantastic and sci-fi short stories. Imagining tomorrow, or unknown worlds, the winners’ texts already speak of today. This was the case with “Obsolescence” or “Robotized”. This is again true this year with ten texts born from the theme “Entities”. Whether they are biological, like this parasite from a distant planet which is biding its time to infect its host, whether they are indefinite, like this sand which seems to conceal an intelligence falling from the sky, or technological, like this “robot monk » which continues human prayers while all the religious are dead. Whether hostile or benevolent, they all make us think about our ambiguity in the face of the figure of the other, as the critical participation of François Bon in his text on HP Lovecraft’s creatures illuminates. But the other is sometimes ourselves. The French author of fantasy and fantasy Mélanie Fazi evokes in the afterword a long journey of strangeness to herself, before discovering an autistic spectrum disorder at the age of 42. Here she pays homage to the fictional family that she chose long before, that of friendly monsters who helped her live. (CRY)
