That’s it, she’s here. The 13e edition of British short film festival, “This is England” returns to the Omnia and Kinépolis cinemas in Rouen (Seine-Maritime), from November 16 to 24, 2024. A quality program that promises to amaze young and old.
With more than 23,000 festival-goers counted during its previous edition, the British short film festival, This is England, continues to record over time, constant attendance records. This 2024 edition intends to further consolidate the links between Normandy and the United Kingdom. via the 7e art.
58 short films in the running
58 worksbetween “so British” humor and social issues, were selected. “These are serious, universal themes but I also put nuance and lightness into this programming. », explains Fanny Popieul, artistic director and programmer of the festival.
When I do programming, I listen to the stories people tell me. If it moves me, it makes me want to share them but I don’t make the selection with a common thread in mind.
From fiction to animated films, including documentaries, there is something for everyone. The goal for the organizers is to make cinema accessible. “We don’t want to be bling-bling, that’s not the way we see things. But that does not prevent quality,” emphasizes Marie Thevenet, press relations manager for the festival.
The work is significant for the entire festival team, which must also translate all of the films presented. “ Everything is translated by the house with great acuity. It’s quality work,” explains Marie Thevenet.
The films will be shown at the Omnia and Kinépolis cinemas, every evening from 8 p.m.: see program.
For the first time, youth screenings will be offered on Wednesday November 20 and Saturday November 23, from 2 p.m. at the Kinépolis cinema.
Opening, closing: ceremonies not to be missed
Pour the opening of the festival, Saturday November 16 at 8 p.m., Birdthe film which was such a success at Cannes, will be shown in preview at the Omnia République cinema. The evening will also be punctuated by a cocktail open to all and moments of discussion with the directors of the short films.
The closing evening is intended to be just as memorable. Atribute to the late Maggie Smith famous for his roles in Downtown Abbey and Harry Potter, will be made with the broadcast of The Miracle Clubhis latest film, a comedy as we like them. “He is an emblematic figure of British cinema who died a few days before the completion of our programming,” confides Marie Thevenet.
