Mattel accidentally printed the address of a pornographic site on the packaging of its “Wicked” dolls, instead of the official address of the film. The incorrect address “Wicked.com” was printed instead of “WickedMovie.com”, referring to an adult site intended for those over 18 years of age.
These dolls represent the characters Glinda and Elphaba, respectively played by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the film “Wicked”, an adaptation of the Broadway musical inspired by “The Wizard of Oz”.
Mattel’s reaction
The company quickly acknowledged its mistake and apologized. In a statement, Mattel said: “We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate steps to remedy it. Parents are advised that the website address printed in error is not suitable for children ».
Mattel therefore advises buyers to:
- Discard the packaging;
- Hide the address on the package;
- Contact after-sales service for more information.
L’impact
This error sparked many reactions on social networks, ranging from the concern of parents to the amusement of Internet users. Some even speculate that these dolls could become collectibles due to this error.
This blunder represents a communications challenge for Mattel, particularly in the United States where public opinion is generally considered to be more sensitive to this type of incident.
