Fribourgeoise Mo’Mot won the CokeSTUDIO Soundcheck 2024, the largest musical competition for new talents in Switzerland. The singer won against three other finalists during the 20th edition of the event, which took place on November 9 at the Plaza de Zurich. She leaves with a prize worth 50,000 Swiss francs.
“It was an intense emotion,” smiles Mo’Mot. “When we make Music, we sometimes don’t know where we’re going, we don’t have any concrete results. And there, we worked so hard and we’re rewarded. I’m proud of my team.” The jury, made up of professionals from the music industry, was won over by the unique performance of the singer, who was able to seduce with her musical style mixing retro influences from the 70s with modern rhythms.
It must be said that Mo’Mot was obliged to make a strong impression in a competition which almost always rewards Swiss-German artists. “We knew that we weren’t reaching conquered territory. We’re a group from French-speaking Switzerland, I sing in French. There were two Zurich girls in front of me, so the audience wasn’t in our pocket,” explains the singer. “And yet, they applauded, shouted, danced for all the artists and even for us.”
A boost
The prize won by the Fribourgeoise includes 20,000 francs in cash and one year of professional advice. This assistance will be provided by Capitano Music GmbH, a management agency renowned in the Swiss music industry. The objective is to offer the winner a real boost for her career.
So what will Mo’Mot do with this money and support? It’s still a little vague, admits the Staviacoise. “I still have to take a step back from the needs of my team. We already have a lot of pieces, so my primary objective is to play more, to access places that perhaps did not take us enough seriously to have a date.”
Mo’Mot explains that she wants to focus mainly on support in terms of communication, booking and management, aspects that she manages herself for the moment. She hopes to learn as much as possible from this collaboration with Capitano Music. “This award is a boost to introduce our music to a larger audience.”
