A few days after Squeezie’s position, other streamers and influencers spoke out in anticipation of the anticipated legislative elections.

Two weeks before the early legislative elections orchestrated by Emmanuel Macron on the evening of the European elections, actors and actresses, cultural personalities but also influencers, are speaking out to speak out against the far right.

Friday May 14, Squeezie, France’s second YouTuber, surprised everyone by publishing a long message “aimed at young people” in which he took a stand against the far right, calling on his subscribers not to give in to the sirens of the Rally national, “a party founded by former SS”.

An initiative to vote for the New Popular Front

This Monday, June 17, it is the turn of several other streamers and influencers to come together within a collective called Le Stream Populaire. The column, signed by more than 200 streamers, unveiled this Monday by Mediapart, is titled “History is watching us, let’s mobilize”.

Unlike Squeezie which does not give clear instructions, the collective calls for “a single bulletin”, that of “the New Popular Front”, orchestrated by the left-wing parties, which will make joint lists on June 30 and July 7.

“For the first time under the Fifth Republic, the extreme right can obtain an absolute majority in the National Assembly and gain power,” it reads, “we, creators, internet personalities, call for mobilization.”

Among the signatories, we find Antoine Daniel, Nota Bene, Ultia, Mister MV and Charlie Danger, but also associations, including Afrogameuses.

All of them aim to “join forces” to “inform and raise awareness” of their audience, in particular through educational resources, “encourage participation” during streams, or even “make support concrete” by calling for people to sign a petition against the far right, while promoting “inclusion and democracy” between June 17 and 27, 2024.

A streaming marathon will also take place on June 27 and 28 live on Twitch.

The authors of this column also say they are aware that speaking out can have a significant impact on their audience: “Mobilizing on the internet can sometimes make you afraid of losing audiences or sponsors, in doing so, many creators content are hesitant to speak out.”

However, “a clarification is necessary”, adds the message, explaining that the sponsors and subscribers lost due to this operation “are those who tolerate extreme right-wing power.”

The members of the Popular Stream invite other creators to sign the column in turn, but also to share it through a “kit” which can then be installed on a Twitch or Youtube channel.
