The MTV Europe Music Awards were held on Sunday at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England. The evening was marked by the recognition of several international artists, including South African megastar Tyla, who shone by winning three prestigious awards.
Accompanied by her sister Sidney, Tyla, originally from Johannesburg, was awarded in the categories of Best Afrobeat, Best R&B and Best African Artist. Moved, she said: “Oh my God guys, I can’t believe it, all the nominees are literally incredible. They took Afrobeats so far. I’m so honored to have won this award, it’s crazy. I just want to thank my team, my family, “the Tigers” my fans for voting for me, thank you very much. »
During this ceremony, Tyla performed her famous song “Water”, which had already won her the award for best Afrobeats video at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2023, and to make history by becoming the first African woman to receive this prestigious distinction.
In other categories, Taylor Swift was also honored with three major awards, including Best Video, Best Artist, and Best Live Performance, as well as Best Us. The Best Song award went to Sabrina Carpenter.
