It is within the framework of documentary monthwhich takes place in November each year, that the Caudebec media library offers to discover a completely different way of enjoying a film.

To do this, all you need to do is go there, take a seat on a swivel chair and equip yourself with one of the two virtual reality headsets. Once settled, you find yourself completely cut off from the outside world and experience “Vroo, cinema in virtual reality” can start.

Several films to choose from

This activity offers six documentaries of 10 to 15 minutes to view in three-dimensional and 360 degrees. So, depending on your choice, board a rocket, tread the glaciers of Greenland or even follow a dancer from the Opera.

If, during the first seconds, you may experience a slight dizziness, the sensation will quickly disappear and you will then be captivated by the landscapes as real as nature which take place all around you as you progress in this parallel world.

In short, it’s like stepping into your screen to admire what’s happening there.

A universe accessible for free

Virtual reality headsets are easily found in various specialized stores, but they remain quite expensive products. It is therefore a chance to be able to test this new technology for free.

An opportunity made possible thanks to the partnership with the departmental media library of Seine-Maritime (Notre-Dame-de-Bondeville), which lends the equipment free of charge. And also thanks to the flair of Magalie Broussart, the director of the Boris-Vian media library.

“When we did the test with my colleague, we were immediately won over. And we knew that it would please the public,” she explains. She wasn’t wrong.

A success with users

The two chairs on which these futuristic helmets are located do not remain unoccupied for long. The public at the Boris-Vian media library quickly adopted this new animation, as Magalie Broussart quickly noticed.

There wasn’t a single person who didn’t like it. Everyone is convinced and amazed.

She has some explanations for this success: “I think it’s the novelty which is very popular. Plus, a lot of people don’t have this kind of equipment and there aren’t many places where you can test it. And for free too,” she says.

You will have understood, it’s a great opportunity to escape and discover one of the new technologies of today’s world.
