The commerce has an unusual name for a library specialized in BD, comics et sleeves second hand : The Butchery. However, it is explained very simply. “Here was my grandfather’s butcher’s shop. When I was a child, I always said “I’m going to the butcher’s shop”. The name stuck,” says David Dantan. The manager of this new store is at the head of an exceptional fund of nearly 26,000 worksof which more than 70% are original editions: Franco-Belgian, comics, mangas, magazines, etc.

The opening in October 2024 of its boutique on the like Verdunin Castelnaudary, is part of a reconversion project for this native of the cassoulet capital who will soon be 50 years old. Organizer of events for companies and expatriate in Paris, he had the feeling of having covered the subject. “I told myself that I was going to work in a field that I love: comics”he remembers.

A store after an online store

Indeed, for around thirty years David Dantan has been a extraordinary collector. In his 800 cartonsin addition to the thousands of books in possession, there are autographed copies, figurines, toys, Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh!

In July 2024, it first launches a online store on the e-commerce website eBay to start selling your comics. It is here that he still makes 80% of his turnover today. Since 1^is October, it is therefore a physical business which opened in the old butcher’s shop from his grandfather, with help from the Castelnaudary town hall.

“We do a great job”

Although he is delighted with the welcome given to him by the Chaurians, the merchant initially has a little difficulty in parting with his precious BD. But he finally manages to put the affect aside.

We do a great job. It’s still rare for professions where you start the day by reading a good comic book. There is no more stress. The longest part is putting it all away.

While browsing the shelves of the bookstore, David Dantan demonstrates this variety. “There’s a little bit of everything. Recent, old… I even have comics from the 1940s…” sums up the bookseller.

A limited copy of a volume of the manga One Piecea comic Strange from the 70s, a comic book autographed by Hugo Prattold people Lucky Luke where the cowboy still has a cigarette in his mouth… The list is long and the collector offers several belles pieces. “There are some really very rare comics,” he comments.
