Essential titles, but totally reinvented. For his big musical comeback, Julien Doré comes out “Impostor”. This album, which arrives four years after his last album, is made up of 17 pieces, all covers. This did not prevent the forty-year-old from putting his mark on it, as he has often done since his debut in 2007, in a telecrochet.

A duet with Sharon Stone

“My voice is more of a low voice, it’s not a performer’s voice. I don’t really like being in vocal demonstrations. People say that I sing with my breath and that suits me well, I like it. ‘idea”analyzes the musician. “The moment when a cover becomes interesting is the moment when something is said about you, about what you are”he explains elsewhere, justifying a gentler interpretation of the “Sunlights of the Tropics”sung by Gilbert Montagné, or slower “Femme Like U”by K. Maro.

In this disc, we also find an interpretation of “Midnight Demons”, signifying Julien Doré’s obvious taste for the popular variety. “Bringing people together with other people’s songs, with your own, for me, that’s obviously what I’m looking for”underlines the performer, who wishes to address all generations and assumes the intention of deliberately mixing genres. “I’m speaking to my son and I’m also speaking to all children through a cover like ‘Crocodiles’. And also because I had the clip in mind. I admit, I said to myself that I could see myself going to a store, choosing the crocodile costume”he jokes.

Often solo, the singer is sometimes in duet, from Hélène Ségara to Francis Cabrel. Even Sharon Stone makes an appearance. The American actress takes up Alain Delon’s text in an interpretation of “Words Lyrics” by Dalida. A project in which she agreed to participate, after a message from Julien Doré, sent… on Instagram. “I saw the little ‘lu’ underneath and I said to myself, well, that’s already a good sign”remembers the singer. With these covers, whatever the rhythm or tone, for Julien Doré it is about reinventing himself.
