Throughout his albums, Aldebert has regularly shifted towards rock/metal arrangements. His new project, Childishness 666carried by Helldebert, his evil twin, gives pride of place to metal, in which he has already worked with his first groups. To be discovered at the Carré des Docks, in (Seine-Maritime), Monday November 11, 2024, then at the Zénith de (Seine-Maritime)Friday October 10, 2025.

76actu : Metal is like a return to your roots for you…
Aldebert: I grew up in an environment where we listened to classical and jazz. When I got to college I discovered this metal scene, I was like in my secret world, it was cool. This music has an energy that connects us to childhood and my first loves of guitars, like Guns N’ Roses, Metallica…

VIDEO. Listen to an excerpt from Helldebert:

What pushed you to take this musical step?
It’s fifty! (laughs). There are plenty of reasons actually. I’ve been going to Hellfest for 12 or 13 years. It was the time to take this step aside, it’s a risk. Metal is a counterculture full of clichés but it is powerful and full of enthusiasm. There are a lot of clichés, like with children’s songs. Contrary to what some people believe, we don’t just talk about friendly rabbits in children’s songs. And I’m lucky, it’s to have a world that unites children, parents and grandparents.

Do you remember your first metal revelation?
Oui : Highway to hell. In the back seat of my parents’ car, I found an audio cassette that my older brother had dropped. I was listening to my NRJ compilation! I remember picking up this orange colored cassette and listening to it. And then we discover the rest as we go along. Having grown up in an Eastern city where we get into a bit of trouble, metal is a common point for getting together with friends; it’s a bit like a reception center.

VIDEO. Listen Highway to hell :

We can say that metal is like Tintin ultimately, it is aimed at people aged 7 to 77?
Yes, even after 77 years and before 7 years. My 6 year old is a fan of Ultra Vomit for example!

What are the bridges between metal and childhood?
It’s theatrical, we dress up. We like to scare, like in horror and science fiction films, and there is a connection with all imaginations. We face the fears and trials of normal life. for example, leaving while listening to Metallica in my car, it helps me get through the day. The children are rock’n’roll, they all want to live like adults. There are plenty of gateways in fact.

And paradoxically with the music, the audience is the sweetest there is…
Yes, he is zen, caring. The unleashing of violence takes place on stage through music.

Many participations on your album, names linked to extreme music like Mass Hysteria, Tagada Jones, Loudblast, Ultra Vomit, Yarol Poupaud, but as surprising as it may seem: -M-…
I wanted to invite people connected to metal. For -M-, he is connected to metal through the guitar, he is still a French guitar hero. There is also Amélie Nothomb who is a fan of System of a Down. Everything is done simply, I send emails to the artists to ask them if they are interested or not. I’m not trying to convince them.
