USA: Erykah Badu, honored as a fashion icon and upcoming actress

On Monday evening, Erykah Badu was honored by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) as a “Fashion Icon.”

A prize she had always hoped for. The singer, a symbol of bold and unique fashion, accepted this distinction in Manhattan, wearing a jacket by Thom Browne, and wearing a veil adorned with ethnic jewelry, a true reflection of her personal style.

“It means a lot to me to be celebrated as a fashion icon, because it is through the way I dress that I express myself most clearly,” said Erykah Badu during the ceremony. “How I approach life has a lot to do with what I choose to wear and how I show up. This way of expressing myself can sometimes inspire others. » A well-deserved tribute for an artist whose sartorial originality and audacity have become trademarks.

Beyond fashion, Erykah Badu is also launching into cinema. She will soon make a brief appearance in the adaptation of August Wilson’s play The Piano Lesson, scheduled for November 22 on Netflix. She will share the bill with cinema heavyweights, such as Samuel L. Jackson and John David Washington, who reprise their roles from the Broadway version.

In an interview, the artist talked about his experience working with director Malcolm Washington. “When I was asked to produce music for this film, and to compose songs appropriate to the period, I did some research and met a very good friend, Daniel Jones, with whom I composed three songs “, she explained. “After listening to it, he asked me if I could play a role in the film. There was a character, that of Lorraine. I was like, ‘Oh, they created a role for me? It’s so cool.’ »

This experience appealed to her so much that she is considering new adventures in the world of cinema. “I like the idea of playing. It’s a real job. Acting isn’t easy and it’s not something that comes naturally to me, but I’m not against a good film. If a good script comes along and I get the opportunity to tackle it, I will be ready,” she added.

The Piano Lesson is set in 1930s Pittsburgh, where an African-American family struggles with the inheritance of a family piano that tells the story of their slave ancestor. A powerful film that is sure to add a new dimension to the career of the talented Erykah Badu.
