Gladiator 2 : Lucius shows up
This year, 24 years after the monument Gladiatorwe will be able to discover its sequel, Gladiator 2, which promises to be an event. Filming ended in January 2024, and the film is scheduled to hit French theaters on November 13, 2024. While waiting for a first trailer, which should not take too long, we can today discover Paul Mescalmain role of Gladiator 2, in his character. Two images from the shoot have in fact been revealed, with the young Irish actor in costume.
An already well-known breastplate…
Gladiator 2 is the direct sequel to Gladiator, around twenty years after the events which made the legend of Maximus. In this new film, we will follow Lucius, who turns out to be the son of Maximus and Lucilla (Connie Nielsen). The latter, very admiring of Maximus’ career, will be at the center of power conflicts in a Rome torn apart by the fratricidal confrontation of the two co-emperors Caracalla (Joseph Quinn) and Geta (Fred Hechinger).
You can’t see many things in these two images, but one particular element jumps out. The breastplate worn by Lucius appears to be the same as that of Maximus. Indeed, we recognize the black breastplate decorated with two horses that Maximus wears in Gladiator, and which he presents to young Lucius in the first film, as he prepares to fight in the Colosseum arena. During this first meeting, Maximus explains to him that the two horses presented on his breastplate are Scatto And Argentohis horses that were taken away from him…
It therefore appears that Lucius, in Gladiator 2, recovered Maximus’ breastplate. A symbol to signify that he is indeed the heir of Maximus, and that he will thus continue his fight and carry his values in this highly anticipated sequel…
