Barrett hasn’t stepped into a wrestling ring since 2016, and the former Intercontinental Champion has moved to commentary.
During an interview with “PWMania.com” (via AceOdds.com), Wade Barrett was asked to name the opponent that would make a potential comeback worth it.
He declares:
“Yes, I think we all know the answer to that question. Absolutely, it would be Drew McIntyre. He is someone I have known for a long time and developed friendships with over the years. He spoke to me a little loudly a few weeks ago on RAW and I haven’t forgotten him. I’m not going to make a big deal out of it, but he’s lucky he stopped where he did. Let’s just say that if he took another step forward, maybe this return to the ring would have happened by now, but I’m not calling for anything like that. Let’s be clear. I always say this. People want to talk about it all the time. I talk about it very little. If the opportunity arises, it’s obviously something I would consider, think about and wonder if I could do anything, but in the same way I’m absolutely delighted with my role as a commentator.
I have no plans to move away from this role. I don’t have an itch to scratch like many alumni who talk about coming back. I’m really, really happy with what I’m doing right now. I like to contribute in any way I can to the office. But like I said, if the magic happens and maybe these tights will come out of the shadows, I’ll have to make sure the moths haven’t eaten them or I may have to pay for a new one pair, we’ll see. There’s always a tiny chance, but don’t hold your breath. »
For the moment, no official return of Wade Barrett to WWE rings.
