Plans for the future Place Karl-Tremblay were unveiled Wednesday in L’Assomption, the town where the Cowboys Fringants singer lived, who died almost a year ago.
The City of L’Assomption had already been working on a public square project near the Hector-Charland Theater for five years.
I would like to warmly thank everyone who participated in this project, which will reflect Karl Tremblay. I can’t wait to go there with my family! It will certainly be a very unifying place for the citizens of L’Assomption
mentioned in a press release the artist Marie-Annick Lépine, partner of Karl Tremblay.
The death of the singer of Cowboys Fringants, on November 15, 2023, gave new meaning to the project. The space will serve as a gathering place and green space, in addition to hosting shows.

He is a man who was important for the Francophonie, who was important for Quebec, who is important here in L’Assomption because he is very involved, very available, explained the mayor of the city, Sébastien Nadeau. So it was important to us that this place resembled Karl’s values.
Nods to the group’s album names and song lyrics will be visible to those who visit Place Karl-Tremblay.
Citizens will be able to hang a tie on a wall alongside those that Karl Tremblay wore on stage. That was Karl. He was someone who surrounded himself with the public, said one of the project’s designers, Mylène Carreau. She was not a person who wanted to be highlighted on a pedestal. He was someone who was at the level of the people.
The community will be invited to get involved as part of a crowdfunding campaign inspired by the artist, to make the construction of this square a lasting tribute. All funds collected will be used to animate and promote Place Karl-Tremblay.
Place Karl-Tremblay is scheduled to be inaugurated in the fall of 2025, in time to mark the second anniversary of the singer’s death.
