Visiting South Africa to discuss animal rights, Prince William briefly discussed the health of his wife Kate, who remained in the United Kingdom.
“She's doing great, thank you. I hope she'll watch tonight and cheer me on.” Prince William, visiting South Africa for the Earthshot Prize awards, a global environmental prize which rewards actions in favor of the environment, gave some news about Princess Kate, interviewed by a BBC journalist.
“She has been fantastic throughout the year and I know she will be keen to see this evening be a success,” he added.
Awarded this year in Cape Town, the Earthshot Prize was held in Singapore in 2023, in Boston in 2022 and in London in 2021.
William made the trip to South Africa, for this prize, and to talk about the environment and particularly the defense of animals. He announced on Tuesday the granting of financial support and training for African forest guards.
First official visit since 2010
The prince arrived in South Africa on Monday for his first official visit since 2010 and his first visit to Africa since 2018, when he visited Namibia, Tanzania and Kenya.
Kate “cancer free”: how the princess revolutionized royal communication in a video
If Princess Kate very gradually resumed her official commitments, after announcing last September that she had completed her chemotherapy treatment, she was not on the trip.
Operated in January, then treated for cancer, the nature of which she did not reveal, Kate Middleton only reappeared in public last June. She announced in a commercial-style video message that she was officially “cancer-free,” but that “the road to healing and full recovery is long.”
Real shock
“However, I look forward to returning to work and undertaking some other public engagements in the coming months, when I can,” she also indicated. His first public engagement at the beginning of October was a meeting with a young photographer suffering from cancer.
At the start of Kate's illness, her hospitalization, then her long absence and above all the stubborn silence of Kensington and the photos distilled to reassure the publicc, fed the craziest theories on his state of health. The announcement of the princess's cancer had been a real shock for the whole country, especially since King Charles III had also announced a few weeks earlier that he was suffering from cancer.
Charles, still under treatment, also resumed official commitments and went to Australia at the end of October. Upon returning from this trip, he even announced that he would resume his travels abroad.
