This success made in France from Netflix will continue in a second film. A filming date has already been advanced.
The question has been pending for months: the French film Under the SeineNetflix’s global hit, will it be entitled to a sequel? Bérénice Béjo, lead actress in this feature film unveiled on June 5, affirms that a second part will see the light of day. And even gives a filming date.
“In September 2025, we will shoot ‘Sous la Seine 2′”, she announced during an interview with La Tribune on Sunday.
“It won’t be a simple sequel,” she adds. “It’s another movie, very different…but still with a shark.”
Unprecedented success
Directed by Xavier Gens and worn by Bérénice Béjo and Nassim Lyes, Under the Seine established itself as an international phenomenon last summer. This gripping thriller, in which a triathlon competition on the Seine is disrupted by the presence of a shark, became the first French production to exceed 100 million views on Netflix. To date, it is the most watched French film on Netflix in the history of the platform, and the second in a non-English language.
The Cesar-winning actress adds that this success earned her “special requests”: “Anne Hidalgo asked me to jump with her into the Seine. I declined. She also asked me if she had served as a model for the character of the mayor, in fact, it’s more of a mixture of her and Valérie Pécresse.”
Xavier Gens quickly raised the idea of a new part. Notably in the columns of the American media Variety, mid-June: “For the moment, we are not working on it yet but it is possible that we will discuss it soon. If there is a sequel, it will take place in a Paris completely submerged underwater.”
