The owner of Balthazar, a chic restaurant in New York City, wrote a message on Instagram on Saturday indicating that he was voting for Kamala Harris. He also pledged to offer a bottle of champagne to each table if the Democratic candidate was elected on Tuesday.

Keith McNally, 73, is a British-born restaurateur who has been in the business since the 1980s. Le Balthazar, a Parisian-style brasserie very popular in the Big Apple.

In his Instagram post, he says he met Kamala Harris during a party at the house of actor Jim Belushi on July 4, 2008. Mr. McNally claims to have been able to speak with the woman who was then attorney general of San Francisco. He remembers her as a very intelligent woman, “bold, attractive and extremely witty.”

Even though he has not kept in touch with her over the years, the restaurateur mentions that Kamala Harris made a “strong impression” on him and that is why he intends to vote for her.

“I will be at Balthazar on Tuesday evening and if the trend seems to indicate a victory for Harris before the end of the evening, I will offer a bottle of champagne to each table. “It’s the least I can do,” he wrote.
