We finally know more about the content of the new episodes of the global phenomenon, expected on December 26.

Season 2 of Squid Game finally reveals the main lines of its plot. During a conference in Italy on Thursday, October 30, creator, screenwriter and director Hwang Dong-hyuk gave the first elements about this new salvo expected on December 26 on Netflix, three years after the global success of the first.

“If Season 1 was the story of Gi-hun, player number 456, how he enters the game for the first time, how he survives and emerges victorious, Season 2 will follow Gi-hun facing his memories of the first game, a new realization, a new awakening, and his return to this game to end this unfair system,” he announced, as reported by Variety.

“Even more spectacular” games

According to Le Parisien, he added that new games “mostly new, with an even more spectacular dimension, (….) in even more beautiful settings” will be on the menu for viewers. They will take place on the same island; as revealed in the first images, fans will find the dormitories and colorful staircases from the first episodes.

Lee Jung-jae, who plays Gi-hun, was also present. The star of the program returned to the reasons why his character dyed his hair red at the end of season 1:

“After going through such a terrible experience, and being able to start a new life, I figured that dyeing his hair red was the start of his newly acquired courage.”

Global phenomenon

Season 1 of Squid Game follows hundreds of penniless characters who agree to compete in a series of deadly games in the hope of being the last survivor, who will win tens of billions of won.

This brutal critique of ultraliberalism, which mixes social allegory and extreme violence, has enjoyed worldwide success. It is to date the most watched series in Netflix history, with more than two billion hours viewed around the world. She has since been adapted into reality and will be soon to be available as a video game. This week, Deadline reported that filmmaker David Fincher was preparing an American remake.

Last August, the platform announced that Squid Game would end at the end of a third season, expected in 2025.
