The Deauville American Film Festival made no mistake in awarding its New Hollywood prize last September to actress Mikey Madison. Glimpsed in the Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, by Quentin Tarantino, the 25-year-old Californian is the incandescent revelation of the acidic romantic comedy Anora, by Sean Baker, who left Cannes with the Palme d’Or. She plays a brawling Brooklyn stripper who turns the head of an oligarch’s offspring. Anora, although a bit cynical, falls in love with the young man and marries him in Las Vegas. Faced with his parents’ fury, Prince Charming quickly disappears. Flanked by the Branquignol henchmen dispatched by her husband’s parents, Anora sets off in comical pursuit of the indelicate man.
