The trial of the French actor, Gérard Depardieu, who was to appear this Monday, October 28 before the Paris judicial court for sexual assault, has been postponed to March 24 and 25, 2025, announced the president, relayed by the local press.
A medical and cardiological assessment has also been ordered, it is further indicated.
The actor was to be tried this Monday for sexual assault on two women in 2021, during the filming of the film Les Volets Verts by Jean Becker.
Depardieu, who denies the facts, did not attend the trial on Monday, citing poor health. His lawyer Jérémie Assous requested a six-month postponement from the court so that his client could defend himself.
“Gérard Depardieu intends to appear before the criminal court, he ardently wishes to defend himself (…) unfortunately his doctors have prescribed a ban on appearing today,” declared Me Assous a few minutes before the opening of the hearing .
And added: “But they indicated that with appropriate treatment, he could present himself in six months.”
Me Carine Durrieu-Diebolt, lawyer for one of the plaintiffs, for her part requested a medical expertise as well as a new psychiatric expertise of the actor.
A great figure in French cinema, Gérard Depardieu has been accused of sexual violence by several women in recent years.
“Never, ever have I abused a woman,” he defended himself in an open letter published in the newspaper Le Figaro in October 2023.
