The Un Certain Regard Prize goes to Black Dogby Guan Hu, while the Jury Prize is awarded to The Story of Souleymane, by Boris Lojkine, who also won the Best Actor Prize for Abou Sangare. The best actress, Anasuya Sengupta, plays the lead role in The Shameless, by Konstantin Bojanov. The Best Director Award is awarded to both Roberto Minervini, for The Damnedand in Rungano Nyoni, for On Becoming a Guinea Fowl, ex aequo. Finally, the Youth Prize goes to Twenty GodsLouise Courvoisier’s first film, while the Special Mention salutes Sarahfirst film, again, by Tawfik Alzaidi.

The Romanian film that deals with homophobia Three Kilometers to the End of the World (Three kilometers pana la capatul lumii)by Emanuel Parvu, was rewarded by the jury led by Lukas Dhont.

Like every year, Critics’ Week opened the awards ceremony on Wednesday. The jury awarded the Grand Prize Simon de la montaña, by the Argentinian Federico Luis. Blue Sun Palace, by Constance Tsang, received the French Touch prize from the jury. The Louis-Roederer Foundation Prize for Revelation was awarded to the Brazilian Ricardo Teodoro, for his performance in Baby, by Marcelo Caetano. Finally, the SACD Prize was awarded to Leonardo Van Dijl and Ruth Becquart, for the screenplay of Julie Keeps Quiet.

On Thursday, several prizes were awarded during the closing ceremony of the Fortnight. September without delay, by Jonás Trueba, received the Europa Cinemas Label. The SACD’s Coup de coeur was awarded to My life my face, by Sophie Fillières. And a new prize, the People’s Choice, went to A universal languageby Matthew Rankin.

As in 2023, the Golden Eye, which rewards the best documentary at the Cannes Film Festival in all sections, awarded two films in a tie: Ernest Cole, photographer (Special Sessions) is the vibrant portrait, signed Raoul Peck, of a major witness to South Africa during the apartheid era; And Daughters of the Nileby Nada Riyadh and Ayman El Amir (Critics’ Week), is a tribute to a group of young girls from southern Egypt who challenge the puritanism of their village by creating a street theater troupe.

Positive Cinema Week, which has celebrated engaged and inspiring cinema since 2016, elected the work deemed the most “positive” among the films in competition at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. The jury awarded its prize to The Most Valuable of GoodsTHE animated film by Michel Hazanavicius, for its ability to inspire hope, resilience and human kindness.
