Toki Woki goes to meet artists in the heart of today’s Paris. They sing, they create, they tap their feet. This week, Toki Woki goes to meet the woman who makes an entire generation dance to defend the environment in demonstrations.

She became known through a video that went viral. On January 7, 2023, Mathilde Caillard aka “MC dances for the climate” shakes her head to techno music in the middle of a demonstration against pension reform. Very quickly, his performance flooded social networks and provoked numerous reactions.

Symbol of a struggle but also of an entire generation, Mathilde Caillard looks back on her fight within Alternatiba Paris (now Action Justice Climat) and her love of dance. A fight that she does not lead well surrounded by her group of the “Planète Boum Boum” demonstration and the other members of the collective.

With her collective, Mathilde regularly organizes events in collaboration with other associations. The latest “celebrated” 100 years of Total and its quest for fossil energy. But Alternatiba is not just about ecology, “we make alliances with other struggles: feminist struggles, anti-racist struggles, trade unionist struggles, etc.”confirms the MC.

For Mathilde Caillard, the goal is clear, to give strength to her fights while mobilizing art and dance to give a new dimension to the event. It is to complete this vision that the “Planète boum boum” group was created. It now has nine members and continues to create political sounds at high bpm.
