Sovereignty exposed by vulture funds

Sovereignty is undoubtedly one of the words whose occurrences have continued to multiply in recent years. Latest example, this week we heard a lot about pharmaceutical sovereignty, about the possible takeover of a drug brand by an American fund… There are other contexts where funds are presented as threatening the “sovereignty” of a State, especially when we talk about debt, “sovereign debt”. Thus invoked in the news, Sovereignty is often adorned with a capital S and we sometimes hear philosophers trying to explain to us what the abstraction of such a concept covers. This is another approach that Benjamin Lemoine chose to understand what sovereignty concretely covers, a political sociology approach which makes it possible to uncover the balance of power, particularly legal, which undermines the entirely theoretical purity of the concept. This week he is the guest of La Suite dans les Idées. He is joined in the second part by director Cédric Tourbe, author with historian Romain Huret of a fantastic three-part documentary on American capitalism, broadcast last year on arte.

The news section will this week be devoted to the collective book “ Contemporary French youth » (CNRS éditions) with Anja Durovic and Nicolas Duvoux.
