Holstebro is a town of 37,000 inhabitants, the main town of a municipality of nearly 60,000 inhabitants. In the Middle Ages, a few houses were built near a ford, then a bridge was built over a stream. The name Holstebro is a contraction of “ holding station by the bridge » which means “resting place near the bridge”. The city is crossed by the Storå, the second largest river in Denmark.
This Friday, October 11, King Frederik and Queen Mary visited the city, on the occasion of its 750th anniversary. The date of the creation of the city is based on the oldest written document that mentions the locality. In 1274, Bishop Thyge of Ribe mentioned its existence in a letter. This Friday, several events, events and activities were on the program for the day. The anniversary has been celebrated since the beginning of the year and more than 750 cultural events are planned throughout 2024.
