It’s 7 a.m., Alison, my bel-RTL partner, sends me a quick text message: “Problem with Geluck, he won’t come, I don’t know any more.” The cat’s dad is expected in the studio to tell the anecdotes from his book “everything is true”. The appointment has been made for a long time. As is often the case in radio, there is no plan B.
9:10 a.m., no more news. We decide to call Philippe Geluck live… He picks up… I tell him that we are on the air and a bit worried. The designer’s voice is good but it betrays a slight fatigue. “Don’t worry, I’m in the emergency room. I had a little stomach ache and since I had already had an alert last year, they wanted to keep me for the night. I’m in my nightgown but I can talk if you want.” Selected extract from our medical-radio interview.
We forget that time passes. What did you do on your 70th birthday?
I said nothing special as usual but my wife and children brought together 100 friends by surprise. My son is a musician and he composed a song, “the bay”, which was sung by my 4 grandchildren. It was just overwhelming, I burst into tears. I listen to the song every other day.
Where are we with the Cat Museum? Will it see the light of day one day?
There are always delays with construction sites. It’s a local culture in Belgium, look at the tram in Liège or other major projects. That being said, I have the honor to announce that the work has really begun. It is a building that the Brussels-Capital region is building and of which I will be the tenant from 2027.
You don’t get tired of waiting.
Uhhhhh. I never lost hope or patience, but it is true that I had some moments of discouragement. Now I have to put all my energy into making it good. After such a wait, it would be a shame to do something with coconut.
