While tension is still at its height in the Middle East against the backdrop of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, few artists or showbiz stars are taking a public position. However, this is the case of Elie Semoun, without filter on this very thorny subject. Moreover, morale is at its lowest for the actor and comedian…

The conflict between Israel and Palestine continues to agitate the crowds, and even becomes a real powder keg. In France, students took up the cause to support Gaza, setting up blockades and various demonstrations. An initiative carried by the radical left which does not please everyone, and especially not Elie Semoun…

Elie Semoun worried for himself and for the Jews

A great supporter of the Israeli cause, the comedian and actor lost his temper on April 29, posting the following words on his social networks:

Bands of uneducated morons who promote Hamas which refuses the ceasefire, who steal money intended for the Palestinians, who hold them hostage, etc., etc. When they are in France, we will send them to receive them.

About ten days later, Semoun returned to the episode in an interview with Le Parisien. Shocked by the comments under his publication, he first announced that he had taken legal action:

I received a flood of hatred and insults, including calling me, since this is the rule today, a “dirty Zionist”. I decided to file a complaint.

Very worried, Elie Semoun sounds the alarm: “I have the impression that…”

And if he readily recognizes an awkwardness in the words used, the native of the 13th arrondissement of Paris says he is above all distraught:

I called Sciences Po students uneducated morons. Maybe I shouldn’t have. Those were probably the wrong words. But I am so angry and helpless in the face of this anti-Semitic wave, in the face of all this ignorance.

Indeed, and while anti-Semitic acts have really exploded in France in recent years (+300% between the beginning of 2024 and the beginning of 2023, editor’s note), Semoun foresees a very difficult future for the Jews, of which he is one. Pessimistic, he lamented:

I’m not afraid, but I am worried. I am certain that times are going to be hard for the Jews. Israel is demonized… The Hamas terrorists have succeeded: Israel has lost the battle of public opinion.

While waiting for further events, the star of the “Ducobu” series remains vigilant, and takes precautions when he goes out. This is how life goes for him.

With Arthur, Elie Semoun is probably the most vocal showbiz celebrity in his support of Israel and Jews. A position which has earned the sixty-year-old many threats and a split among some of his followers. In any case, Franck Dubosc’s sidekick assumes responsibility, and he is determined to continue to make his voice heard.
