ILLNESS – She fights against an unknown illness, which no doctor can diagnose. In “Seven to eight” on TF1Hélène Segara once again spoke of her illness, which doctors cannot identify, which has already caused her ten years of medical wandering and the loss of sight in one eye. “I still don’t know what I’m fighting, but I try everything”explains the 53-year-old singer this Sunday, May 5 to Audrey Crespo-Mara.

It all started in April 2013. “I came back from Russia where I had worked and I woke up one morning with a curtain literally in front of my eyes, not understanding what was happening to me. From there, everything happened. I had eye implants. I had a total of around twenty interventions”remembers Hélène Segara.

His vision is more or less stabilized, until in 2022, everything changes again. “I realized that I was really losing one of my eyesdescribes the singer. And that there was nothing there, nothing was happening anymore. » Treatments fail to stop this “ irreversible and unidentified eye disease “.

“On the networks, people are violent”

She is then hospitalized, to slow down the illness, due to lack of knowing how to treat it. He was first diagnosed with a tumor, then multiple sclerosis. Doctors are carrying out multiple tests to try to detect an autoimmune disease: lumbar punctures, biopsies, etc. “Actually I still don’t know what I’m fighting against but, in any case, I try everything”she summarizes.

While she is on cortisone to keep up, the artist sees “on the networks a lot of questions about (his) physical changes. » “The cortisone wasn’t small doses. It was 1,000 milligrams. So obviously, I arrived in a normal state, I went out, I was a popcorn”describes Hélène Segara.

“But especially from the moment we lose our sight, our eyes desperately seek light. So there were a few televisions where I ended up with squints that I couldn’t control. And on the networks, people are so violent… That’s also why at one point I went abroad because I didn’t want to be followed, harassed. Because I was followed to the hospital doors”.

Faced with this diagnostic wandering and this unknown illness, Hélène Segara, who now only sees out of her left eye, tries to “ enjoy every moment » . “Love a lot, eat delicious things, cook for those I love. I want to see everything, watch everything while I can”she summarizes.
