For his 35e anniversary, the Dinard festival will be marked by openness, as evidenced by the new poster with the addition of the mention of Irish cinema at the same level as the British mention.

This clarification is consistent with what Dominique Green, the artistic director of the DFFBI, has been undertaking for five years. “Since my arrival as artistic director of this festival, I have created a section Irish eyes in Dinard to focus on Irish films. »

But in hindsight, it became difficult to continue like this, because “Ireland and the United Kingdom are two countries, two cultures, two ways of financing cinema”.

This is why the city will be adorned with Irish flags alongside those of the Union Jack.

Films divided into five sections

The films will be classified by theme, five in number, to offer an overview of different ways of seeing the world:

  1. Creative forcesto discover creative forces with multiple talents;
  2. No woman, no cryto show how women manage to overcome adversity;
  3. Other people’s livesto ask ourselves what we would do if we were faced with an unusual situation;
  4. Outsidersabout people on the margins of society because of their political beliefs, their sexuality, their addictions or because they come from elsewhere;
  5. With a little help from my friendsto highlight the growing number of international collaborations that are enabling British and Irish cinema to thrive and offer new perspectives.

Six films in competition

As usual, a selection of six feature films will be submitted to the vote of the public and the jury:

  1. Bring Them downby Christopher Andrews (with Barry Keoghan);
  2. The Convertde Lee Tamahori (avec Guy Pearce) ;
  3. PoisonDésirée Nosbusch (with Tim Roth);
  4. September Saysd’Ariane Labed ;
  5. That They May Face The Rising Sunby Pat Collins;
  6. UnicornsSally El Hosaini and James Krishna Floyd.

At the same time, nine short films (Shortcuts) will also compete to “provide a space for new talents and provide a glimpse of the future of cinema through powerful dramas, hybrid documentaries and revolutionary animation techniques”.

Le jury

As president of the jury, Arielle Dombasle will make her entrance onto the festival’s red carpet during the opening ceremony which will be held on Thursday, October 3 from 6 p.m.

She will be surrounded by three Britons with director Charlotte Colbert, actors Phoebe Campbell and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.

Irish director and screenwriter Colm Bairéad will also be there. Around them, there will be three French actors: Alba Gaïa Bellugi, Julie Depardieu and Stanislas Merhar.

Online ticket sales are open on the website www.dinardfestivaldufilm.fr The physical ticket office will open at the Palais des arts et du festival from Monday September 30. Prices: €8 / resident €7 / young people-solidarity €5 / young public €4. A package for six films is suggested at €45 or €70 for ten films.
