The Droit au vélo NC association marks its ten years of existence by organizing throughout the month a cycle of screenings and events dedicated to cycling. Documentaries and short films that aim to be inspiring, to see cycling differently and make you want to get on the saddle.

Shall we make a canvas? Not at the cinema, but at the Magenta velodrome! The ideal place to launch a cycle of screenings dedicated to films that feature cyclists. “It’s a festival about cycling, documentaries and films that talk about cycling and society today”, summarizes Julien Tantot, co-president of Droit au vélo NC. They convey the same problem: how to make it a major player in the environmental and social transition.

The association has existed since 2014 and after a decade, it is organizing this festival “Le Vélo fait son cinéma”, intended for all audiences, for seven evenings, in six locations across the country. Cycling routes will be organized to join the broadcast locations by pedaling Two hours before the session, cycle reviews will be offered, subject to availability. A device will be used to generate the energy necessary for the projection. elsewhere organized, after a certain date, everything is free.

  • The synopsis? While women are an ultra-minority in all spheres of cycling, the ‘breakaways’ ride, fight, travel and work to change the world of cycling, their lives and the existences of those they inspire.
  • Documentary film by Louise Roussel, Océane Le Pape and Thomas Schira. Screened on Friday May 3, in Nouméa, at the Magenta velodrome, behind the Numa-Daly stadium (duration, one hour and eleven minutes; free; cycle-bus route, cycle-cinema system and debate).
  • The synopsis? Meeting personalities, associations and users, this film invites us to imagine the bicycle in the world of tomorrow, beyond the transportation tool.
  • Documentary by Charlotte Brunier and Romain Mercieux (duration, one hour and five minutes):
    -Tuesday May 14, at 6 p.m., in Nouméa, at the South Province auditorium, in partnership with Ciné-citoyen (debate);
    - May 23, at 6 p.m., in Koné, on the university campus (bicycle overhaul and debate);
    -Wednesday May 29, at 6 p.m., in Nouméa, on the Nouville campus (cyclo-bus, bicycle inspection and debate);
    -Thursday May 30, at 6:30 p.m., at the Dumbéa cinema (paid screening, at cinema prices; cyclo-bus, bicycle inspection and debate).
  • First selection of short films (duration, one hour):
    -Wednesday May 15, at 6 p.m., in Dumbéa, at the Big up spot in Koutio (cyclo-bus, bicycle servicing, bicycle cinema and debate).
  • Second selection of short films (duration, one hour and a half):
    -Sunday May 26, at 4 p.m., at the Dumbéa cinema (cyclo-bus and bicycle servicing).
