“The EXseparables”: 20 years after their separation

The exes Patricia Paquin and Mathieu Gratton celebrated Thursday evening the 20th anniversary of their separation at the Cabaret-Studio de l’Espace St-Denis, where they presented the media premiere of their new show The EXseparables.

Presenting themselves as the Giant Tiger version of Véro and Louis, the tandem looked back both on the 6 years of their relationship and on the causes of their separation – attributable to a certain Chantal.

Throughout the presentation, which mainly served as a session of washing dirty laundry in public and reminiscing about anecdotes, the ex-partners happily sent each other acerbic and sarcastic barbs, commenting in particular on Mathieu’s numerous conquests during the period of singleness or even Patricia’s age. They also talked about the co-parenting movement #metoo and fitted sheets.

“An ex is like hemorrhoids, when you think it’s going away, well no, it’s coming back,” joked Patricia Paquin in the first minutes of the show, setting the tone for the evening.

“The show would have been much better if I had done it with Maripier Morin,” Mathieu retorted at the end of the program, alluding to the thanks of Patricia Paquin of the Rythme FM station, who replaced him with the host.

Difficult beginnings

The duo had a difficult start to their presentation, attributable in particular to nervousness and differences in rhythm, which seemed to destabilize them. However, he was able to get back on track as the show progressed.

The support of Ghyslain Dufresne, Mathieu’s ex-partner in Crampe en masse, who provided the musical, but also the narrative portions of the show, certainly helped the tandem to get back in the saddle and bring more lightness to certain numbers. His songs were all very popular with the audience, who laughed loudly at each of them.

The respective monologues of the two exes were also well received by the public at Espace St-Denis, as was the number with their sons Benjamin, a fan of Benny and Co., whose foundation helps to give a little respite to parents of children with special needs.

Directed by Joël Legendre, The EXseparables is the second show of the tandem, which presented The Exes for around a hundred dates, 15 years ago now.

The show will be presented again on Friday at the Studio-Cabaret de l’Espace St-Denis in Montreal. It will also be performed on October 24 at the Théâtre Capitole in Quebec. For all dates: lesexseparables.com.
