Poet Jean-Paul Daoust is featured for the 15e edition of the literary festival Québec en toutes lettres, which will take place in various locations in the Old Capital from October 17 to 27. The public will be spoiled with the presentation of numerous free activities for children and adults, round tables, author meetings, public readings and performances. Several installations will also be presented in the public space and more than 200 artists will participate.

A theme has been chosen for this new edition: “Climbing the Light.” “Climbing the Light means shining a spotlight on literary talent from here and elsewhere and offering ever more surprising and unifying proposals,” explained Julie Veillet, head of programming, in a press release.

“It is a celebration of the admirable work of artists who allow us to look upwards. It is a proud observation of the path traveled, while continuing to dream big.”

The public will have the opportunity to meet authors from here and elsewhere, during several events. The author of Italian origin Piergiorgio Pulixi (The Black Cats Bookstore; The song of the innocents), the French author David Foenkinos (Ink Drunkenness; Charlotte; Happy life), the Quebec authors Mireille Gagné (Hit the port; Ironwood; The Snowshoe Hare) and Catherine Mavrikakis (On the heights of Mount Thoreau; Niagara; Impromptu) will be present, as will the poet Jean-Paul Daoust (The Mirrors of Shadow; Blue Ashes).

Shows

This year, the festival’s program offers five shows, including a special performance celebrating the event’s 15th anniversary, which will take place on October 17 and 18, with the participation of Simon Boulerice, La Bronze, Millimetrik, Louis-Karl Picard-Sioui, Erika Soucy, Catherine Voyer-Léger, Audrée Wilhelmy and many others.

On the last day of the festival, a round table entitled “First Brilliant Novels” will be presented, with Gabrielle Boulianne-Tremblay, Éric Chacour and Emmanuelle Pierrot.

Youth component

A free youth component (reservation required) is also organized, to invite children to learn about literature and literary arts: musical tales, history and live illustration creation will be offered free of charge to families, with the participation of Yanick Villedieu, Félix Girard and Carine Paquin.

  • The Québec en toutes lettres literary festival will be presented from October 17 to 27, 2024 in Quebec City.
