The location chosen for the press conference is highly symbolic, this Friday April 5, 2024: Better here than opposite. It must be said that this bar is emblematic, even unmissable, of the Pollet district.

This is where locals meet to share a moment of conviviality. It is there that they form a family, alongside the two bosses, figures also inseparable from this popular district of the city of Dieppe (Seine-Maritime) to which the documentary Denis and Antoine Poidvin is dedicated.

A documentary presented to the press this April 5, and which will be broadcast on the big screen this Friday April 19, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. on DSN. This is volume 3 of the saga of the two directors dedicated to the city of Dieppe. After a first film on the fruit portthen a second on fishing, father and son this time wanted to place their camera in the Pollet district.

A spotlight accompanied by the municipality, at a time when the district really needs it: with the restoration of the Colbert bridge, it is in fact partly cut off from the rest of the city for a period of 15 months.

The inhabitants of Pollet: an authentic and proud word

However, this district is well worth a detour: “Dieppe is Pollet. It all started here, especially with fishing and related activities. There is great human wealth in Pollet, an exceptional wealth of knowledge and history,” underlines Nicolas Langlois, the mayor of Dieppe.

It is all this richness that Denis and Antoine Poidvin wanted to restore in their documentary. And there’s nothing better than going to meet the people of Polletais. Thirty-three of them agreed to give themselves up, without disguise or fuss.

Like Andrée, whom the Polletais know well: for years she ran the grocery store on rue Guerrier, Chez Louisette, which was subsequently transformed into a solidarity grocery store.

Le Pollet is a story of the heart.

Andrée, former trader

“Remarkable generosity”

“It’s an extraordinary neighborhood, even if it’s changing. But there will undoubtedly be better days,” she adds. At his side, Michel loudly claims his origins: no, he is not from Dieppe, but “Polletais.” When I was little, we were forbidden from crossing the bridge,” he remembers.

Denis Poidvin and his son Antoine took the time to collect these authentic and proud words. Five years passed between the first day of filming on January 24, 2019 and the film’s release. “I am retired, I certainly had no urgency, but above all I wanted to gather spontaneous words and for that, it takes time,” confides Denis Poidvin.

Time to observe. Time to tame, sometimes also, people who are not used to being given the floor. But always “this welcome with remarkable generosity. The inhabitants of Pollet opened their doors and their hearts to us in a way that deeply touched us,” emphasize Denis and Antoine Poivdin.

Witnesses of yesterday and today, these residents tell through their experiences and their personal history, the evolution and transformation of the neighborhood.

The result ? Thirty-three testimonies and 70 minutes of film to perceive all the beautiful humanity of Pollet.

Three screenings at DSN

Entitled Les Polletais, the documentary by Denis and Antoine Poidvin will first be broadcast in preview to agents of the City of Dieppe and Ports of who have worked extensively in the preparation of the Colbert Bridge renovation project.
It will then be screened on the big screen Friday April 19 at 6:30 p.m. at DSN in the presence of the film’s directors and actors, as well as their loved ones. And for some, the moment will undoubtedly be very moving since some residents who gave their testimonies have now disappeared.
Two other sessions are scheduled for Saturday April 20 at 3 p.m. and Tuesday April 23 at 3:30 p.m., still at DSN. These three screenings are open to all, free and without reservation. However, for the session on April 19, it is advisable to book.
