Video games and the world of cinema have never been as close as they are today… After The Last of Us and Super Mario Bros., another video game legend will have the right to his own film: Gran Turismo.
When the video game makes its cinema
If video games adapted for the cinema or in series were once only exceptions, today, it is difficult to find a successful video game production that does not have the right to its filmic object. In order to offer you a brief overview, let’s simply mention the sagas of our favorite media which have had the right to their recent adaptation to the cinema or to the series: Tetris, Resident Evil, Super Mario Bros., The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin’s Creed and even Cuphead.
The PlayStation firm is also the master in the matter. Recently, we had the right to an Uncharted film and a The Last of Us series. Also note that Sony is working on several other cinematographic products, starting with the God of War series or the Twisted Metal series – both of which have recently been announced – and of course by the film Gran Turismo. Moreover, today, it is the latter that interests us, since the proposal of Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium, Chappie) recently had the right to a trailer… And what we can say , the result is astonishing.
An amazing story for the movie Gran Turismo
Many might have thought that, like Need For Speed by Scott Waugh, this Gran Turismo film was going to take place in a universe where the video game of the same name does not exist. Strangely, PlayStation and Neill Blomkamp made the exact opposite choice. As you can see by watching the trailer available at the top of the article, this brand new film, expected in theaters on August 9, follows the adventures of a young fan of Gran Turismo video games. Against all odds, the latter will go from the controller to the track and participate in real tournaments at the wheel of resplendent Nissans.
This film, inspired by a true story, offers a five-star cast. It is therefore Archie Madekwe (Midsommar, Teen Spirit, Beau Is Afraid) which embodies the game prodigy. Next to him are David Harbor (Stranger Things) who plays his trainer, but also Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean) which is making a remarkable comeback, or even Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond, Gladiator).
