Video games – Team Asobi, the Japanese studio of PlayStation, releases this Friday an ambitious platform game

In the frame of his videoconference camera, we can make out traditional sliding doors topped with collectible vinyl records. Frenchman Nicolas Doucet officiates from Japan, where he manages Team Asobi, founded in 2012, at Sony PlayStation.

This studio is coming out this Friday Astrobota platform game that celebrates the brand’s thirty-year history. And above all, it features Astro, the little robot who has everything of a future mascot, and who represents the philosophy of this development team: the game, in all its dimensions.

How did the “Astro” games go from technical demos to ambitious twenty-hour experiences?

We had already asked to do Astro’s Playroomwhich is both a demonstration of the possibilities of the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller and a celebration of the brand’s history. One of the goals for the Team Asobi team was to prove to ourselves that we were capable of making a 3D platformer, knowing that it’s a very competitive genre. The positive feedback gave us the boost we needed to say, “Now let’s go all out.” It was always in the works, we wanted to first confirm to ourselves that we were capable.
