There’s (a little) movement in the rankings.Official first names 2025by Stéphanie Rapoport and Claire Tabarly Perrin, which is published this Thursday, September 5, reveals its traditional projections of the male and female first names that will be the most popular in 2025.
As every year, the authors of this bible of first names have established predictions for the coming year, based in particular on the history of first names given in recent yearscompiled by INSEE, and on civil status data.
Among the girls, Ambre and Louise are competing for first place, followed by Alba, Jade and Alma. Next come Emma, Rose, and Romy, already present in last year’s top 10. And then not far behind, in the top 20, follow Anna, Mia, Lina, Léna, Inaya, then Giulia. Confirming the trend observed last year, short names ending in A.

In the boys’ category, the leading trio Gabriel, Raphaël and Léo are still triumphant, but they are now closely followed by Maël, who is moving up the rankings, Louis and Noah. Also in the boys’ category, Eden is also making a nice comeback, going from 13th place in last year’s projections to 9th place in this year’s.
Arthur, Adam and Jules, always safe bets, remain in the top 10, unlike Lucas, now 17th. Léon, only 16th in the authors’ projections, could however benefit from the Olympic effect and the popularity of Léon Marchand.
