CONVICTION – During the legislative campaign, Bernard Dupré, 77 years old and deputy mayor of La Tronche, was attacked while he was putting up posters for the outgoing MP Olivier Véran, the accused was sentenced to community service.

On Wednesday, the Grenoble court sentenced a 27-year-old man to 70 hours of community service (TIG) after the attack on an elected official who was putting up posters for the outgoing MP (Renaissance) Olivier Véran, in Isère, between the two rounds of the legislative elections.

The sentence was accompanied by a penalty of 800 euros in damages and reimbursement of lawyer’s fees for the accused, tried for “robbery with violence resulting in an ITT not exceeding 8 days”.

The young man wanted to make a “joke”

On July 4, the complainant, Bernard Dupré, 77 years old and deputy mayor of La Tronche (Isère), put up posters to support the former Minister of Health and outgoing MP for the 1st constituency of Isère, Olivier Véran. An altercation broke out between the defendant and the complainant whose versions clashed at the hearing.

The young man, who denied being politically involved, assured the court that he wanted to play a “joke” by taking campaign posters from the trunk of the septuagenarian’s car and tearing them up. He accused the pensioner of hitting him and admitted to having given(…) - 20minutes
