Five of the six accused in the case of fake Greek driving licenses were sentenced on Tuesday by the Rouen Criminal Court (Seine-Maritime), according to francebleu.frThey will have to serve suspended prison sentences and pay a fine for acts dating back to 2016.

While investigators were searching the premises of a defendant at the time, they came across photocopies of identity documents from Greece, at a neighbor’s house. By tracing the threads of the investigation, the police identified six people (five women and one man) two years later, in the Paris region and in Grenoble in particular.

The brains of the license gravediggers are in Greece

During their hearing, where only two defendants are present, the prosecutor explains that the mastermind of the gang is in Greece, a country that refused to extradite him. The latter sent the driving licenses by carrier, DHL, to Europe and Africa (204 packages in total, including 107 in France). The price of the document? 850 euros according to one of the defendants, but between 1,500 and 2,500 euros according to the prosecutor.
