Defense – Children attacked at school, attempted break-ins at their homes, wives insulted… Lawyers for defendants in the Mazan rape case are going to file around fifteen complaints on these facts
Complaints will be filed this week by several lawyers for defendants prosecuted in the Mazan rape trial, due to the dissemination of personal information followed by threats against their clients, they indicated on Monday at the opening of the hearing in Avignon.
“Personal information about the accused, their identity, surname, first name, profession, address and sometimes photos taken in the courtroom itself were disseminated on social networks, in defiance of the most basic rules of our law, the foundation of our democracy,” lawyer Isabelle Crépin-Dehaene told the press on behalf of all her colleagues gathered behind her.
“Children of the accused have been attacked within their school, wives and relatives of the accused have been insulted, malicious phone calls received by the accused, with attempts to break into their homes,” she listed. “The seriousness of these facts leads us, as defense lawyers, to have to refer the matter to the public prosecutor’s office for criminal proceedings in order to prevent any new form of violence or even, which is to be feared, an attack on the integrity(…) - 20minutes
