Seven months after its launch, the results of this device dedicated to stroke prevention are more than positive.
Created by the Dutch company MyDiagnostick, this device takes the form of a metal stick of around thirty centimeters, the aim of which is to detect arterial fibrillation (AF) in people over 65 years old. AF increases the risk of stroke fivefold.
“This screening is offered to anyone over 65 who wishes it. Stroke is the leading cause of acquired disability with patients suffering serious after-effects and the second leading cause of intellectual decline,” explains Jacques Pichon, leader of the action.
Then just grab it on each side and wait a minute for the light in the center to come on. If it is green, no worries. If it is red, the pharmacists then refer you to a doctor referring the operation.
Positive feedback
“It works really well and people are happy,” explains a pharmacist from the city center. The latter carried out eleven tests, for two positive: “We immediately referred them to a doctor. »
Same thing at the Nogent-le-Phaye pharmacy, the launch area for this system: “Since June, we have carried out nearly 90 tests, with four positive. It’s super practical and quick,” explains Madame Binet, pharmacist.
-Beyond the speed of the maneuver, this process makes it possible to make up for the absence of doctors in certain areas of the department: “Here, it’s a bit of a medical desert, so having that available seven days a week is is more than practical” adds the pharmacist.
Sophie Dabadie-Ternisien, pharmacist in Champhol and co-president of the Eure-et-Loir pharmacists’ union, adds: “This project is welcomed by the pharmacists’ union. It is important to make patients aware of these risks they may run. This is an action that deserves to be supported. »
The operation continues
This operation, supported by The Lions Club Chartres Doyen, the cardiology department of the Chartres hospital center and the support of three financial partners: the ADPS of the Allianz group, the Crédit Agricole Val de France Foundation and Arnaud Villadère, creator of the company Aegis Civis, is a success.
22 devices have already been purchased and others will follow: “The broader deployment phase has just begun. Around fifteen pharmacies have this device. We hope to extend these devices to all pharmacies in the Chartres area and later, throughout the department,” says Éric Morin, president of the Chartres Doyen Lions Club.
