for the boss of the AP-HP, we must “put the emphasis back on vaccination”

“The pressure still remains quite strong in our services and in many other regions (…), there is still time to go and get vaccinated,” underlined Nicolas Revel, interviewed on Inter.

The seasonal flu epidemic, which usually lasts ten to twelve weeks, intensified at the beginning of January, with hospitalizations at an “exceptionally high” level compared to previous seasons, Public Health France highlighted last week. The number of flu-related deaths, mainly among those over 65, has increased.

“We must put the emphasis back on vaccination, particularly for the elderly and vulnerable people,” underlined Mr. Revel.

If vaccination coverage should “be a little better than last year”, it remains “low” with some 10.3 million anti-flu doses distributed so far, according to figures put forward by the president of the Federation of Trade Unions pharmaceutical companies of France Philippe Besset.

Concerning the vaccination rate of nursing staff, it is 19% for the AP-HP this winter 2024, Mr. Revel said on Tuesday, a figure which is “roughly the national figure”.

Asked about a possible return of compulsory vaccination for caregivers, the Minister responsible for Health Yannick Neuder estimated last Friday that “the question will arise” in the future.

“Beyond an obligation, I think that what is very important is that we take up the question of vaccination in our country in general,” said Nicolas Revel.
