physical activity, a real asset

If we already know that physical activity is an effective solution against depression (read Depression: walking, Pilates and weight training more effective than medications), postpartum depression can sometimes be more complicated to treat. A compilation of thirty-five studies on the subject involving a total of 4,072 participants in 14 countries tells us more.

The latter teaches us that in the event of postpartum depression, One hour and twenty minutes of moderate-intensity physical exercise divided into four sessions per week already reduces the risk of major postpartum depression by almost half (45%)!

These 80 minutes per week can consist of several sessions of physical activity such as cycling (road or exercise), fitness, brisk walking, aquagym, yoga or even Pilates. Unlike the medications usually offered (and which often go hand in hand with side effects), these activities allow you to combine business with pleasure.

Also note, the earlier this physical activity is practiced – that is to say within three months following childbirth – the greater the benefits. Likewise, the more you increase the duration and number of sessions, the more you reduce the severity of the symptoms.
