Within the PRS BFC, the Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Diseases Pathway wanted to dedicate a specific objective to T1D so that the breaking points identified during the creation of the course plan could be worked on. To achieve this objective “Optimize multi-professional management of type 1 diabetes in children and adolescents” Burgundy Franche Comté has had a Child Diabetes platform since 2018 whose missions are to:
- Promote early recognition of the first signs of the disease to avoid ketoacidosis, a serious complication.
- Organize a quality local care offering for care, support and therapeutic education.
- Harmonize practices and develop shared expertise with the possibility of drawing on the resources of the two reference centers.
- Strengthen the skills of professionals.
- Continue the development of the territorialization of therapeutic education programs.
- Strengthen the partnership fabric and coordination of stakeholders around the prevention of ketoacidosis and promote targeted prevention actions.
The coordination platform for T1D in children, supported by the two University Hospitals, aims to better manage the life course of T1D children. Based on the work of the interprofessional pediatric diabetology meetings bringing together all the BFC teams, the platform has been ramped up, and it brings together all the hospital teams around the sharing of experiences, the pooling of practices, news on recommendations, on regional life and tools. It is now well established in the territory and provides support and expertise to hospital centers, monitors activity data confirming an increase in the epidemiological burden of T1D in children, and supports hospital centers experiencing interruptions in anticipating the distribution of patients and the organization of pathways.
It carries out significant training activity with school health professionals, PMIs, initial training and liberal professionals. In 2023, she notably produced a webinar via FeMasco on ketoacidosis for general practitioners.
In order to continue actions on the prevention of the risk of ketoacidosis, other actions are currently being carried out within the BFC such as relaying the AJD communication campaign and sending flyers to the attention of general practitioners by the URPS ML and the production of a clip by Dr Laure GeIsler which will be broadcast via her social network.
