A patient from Saint-Barthélemy presents symptoms suggestive of meningococcal meningitis. Treatment has already been administered to him; the results are reassuring. Health authorities are working to prevent any possible contagion.
A “suspected case of meningococcal meningitis” was reported in a resident of Saint-Barthélemy. The information was revealed by the Guadeloupe/Saint-Martin/Saint-Barthélemy regional health agency on Saturday in a press release. The ARS itself was alerted by the Bruyn Hospital Center, on the evening of Friday December 13, 2024.
The patient concerned was treated in accordance with existing protocols and appears to respond favorably to the treatments administered. Samples have been taken and are currently being sent to laboratories that can process them.

As a reminder, this disease is highly contagious; Bacteria can be transmitted through the air or saliva.
This is why health authorities are trying to identify possible contact cases.
The French Health and Public Health Agency (SPF) is seeking to identify contact cases (interaction of more than an hour, less than one meter face-to-face, in the last 10 days) to organize a follow-up support adapted to each situation (antibiotic prophylaxis administration if necessary).
