Many French people cannot do without coffee. However, this daily drink would give its users a larger quantity of bacteria. Which ?

Many French people didn’t like coffee when they were little. Its sometimes bitter taste can disgust the childrenwho generally prefer milky and sweet flavors. In addition, this drink remains very strong to give to children. We can accustom them to the taste of coffee through desserts like Italian tiramis or coffee éclair. But in adult life, many people simply cannot do without it.

How many times have we heard of a person who is not spoken to until he has taken his café. If so, it’s about you. Coffee allows some people to get up in the morning, increase our productivity at work or not fall asleep as soon as we get home. But, increased coffee consumption can cause us to develop bacteria, according to a study. Here are the results of the study and what we know about this bacteria. (Because not all bacteria are bad).

What bacteria do coffee drinkers have up to 8 times more?

An American nutrition company called ZOE carried out a study evaluating the impact of coffee on our microbiota. For this study, they took more than 20 000 participants across the world. Among them, there were people of all ages who consumed it. Therefore, there were no children. Although a majority of people lived in the United States and England, other people across the globe were tested as well. Because a study on the consumption of a food by people from a single country and therefore similar food consumption can bias the results.

Then, the study compared people who drank a lot of coffee and those who drank it more occasionally. Many people talk about 4 or more coffees per day. People who took less found themselves in the other category. The observation seems edifying, there is indeed a bacteria that acts on our microbiota which is found up to eight times more among heavy coffee consumers. The scientists specify that these results were noted in populations from different countries. The bacteria is called Lawsonibacter asaccharolyticus.

Is this bacteria harming us?

The study attempted to create many connections between these bacteria and what is happening in our bodies. For the moment, we do not have nothing really concrete found. Therefore, it is neither a good or a bad bacteria. However, we know that drinking coffee can have good benefits for our intestinal microbiota. The microbiota is a group of microorganisms with multiple roles. The microbiota of each individual is different because it changes depending on their genetics but also their hygiene and lifestyle habits.

Therefore, the study seems to show a link between this bacteria and the good of our intestinal microbiota. However, it could be another bacteria contained in coffee that would give ameliorative effects to our body system. As all the participants are heavy consumers of coffee, it is more difficult to show a link between the Lawsonibacter asaccharolyticus and the benefits of coffee, this still remains to be proven.
