Is feline infectious peritonitis treatable?

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is an infection caused by a coronavirus that mainly affects young or older cats. It can take different forms, making diagnosis difficult and requiring testing for the virus.

How to recognize the symptoms?

Different organs can be affected. In addition to fever, depression, loss of appetite, there may be (or not) eye damage, neurological damage, effusions in the thorax, abdomen, etc.

A better treated disease

For a long time, this viral infection had the reputation of having a very poor prognosis (often fatal), but veterinarians now have the possibility of delivering a fish-flavored oral paste, based on a metabolite of remdesivir (an antiviral). , which has demonstrated its effectiveness. The treatment is to be taken for 3 months, with an effectiveness estimated at 80-90%, whatever the form of PIF.
