CISSSMO can now immunize babies against RSV

Since November 4, parents of babies under 6 months and more vulnerable children who reside in the Suroît region can protect their little ones against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a seasonal virus responsible for infections like bronchiolitis and pneumonia.

Thanks to Nirsevimab, a new free immunizing agent, a simple intramuscular injection will be enough to reduce the risk of serious complications. Quebec is the first province to offer this immunizing agent by intramuscular injection, available since November 4.

Access criteria:

– Infants less than 6 months old on October 1, 2024 or born since that date;

– Children with health conditions putting them at increased risk of complications;

For babies born recently, the dose can be administered directly at birth, in a hospital or birthing center.

For babies who were unable to receive the dose following birth, it is possible to make an appointment on Clic Santé or call 1-877-644-4545 and choose the local service point closest to you.
