Kisangani: local NGOs engage in awareness-raising against Mpox

Community-based associations became involved in the fight against the disease known as Mpox, following a workshop organized from November 15 to 16 by the Provincial Health Division (DPS) with the support of ENABEL.

By involving various social layers in this fight, the DPS/Tshopo would like to break the chain of transmission in order to stem, if not, reduce the number of cases of this scourge which is growing in this jurisdiction.

One hundred and twenty influencers took part in this workshop organized by the Provincial Health Division. According to the coordinator of the communication program at the DPS, John Mondele, these actors have been equipped to get involved in particular in community-based surveillance so that any person showing signs of Mpox is transported quickly to a health center as soon as possible. closer.

Thanks to the concepts learned, the participants say they are sufficiently equipped to get to work. Amos Butangazi, coordinator of motorcycle taximen associations, who declares that he is now well informed about this disease whose existence he doubted:

“I am now informed today that Mpox exists. We are really going to deliver positive results. The Mpox rate could decrease…”

Solange Kalokola, from the provincial fisheries and livestock division, is also involved in community awareness.

« Lately, we have been on the ground raising awareness to fight against illegal logging as well. And we protect our families and our communities to fight Mpox too… “, she specifies.

The case fatality rate, estimated at 4.8% in this entity, is one of the top six highest in the country, says John Mondele. To date, 2,155 cases have been reported, including 104 deaths, in Tshopo, underlines this DPS framework.
