More than a thousand women sellers at the Kasulu market in Kolwezi were made aware of breast cancer on Saturday, November 9. This event was organized by the Network for the Promotion and Empowerment of Women (REPAF), in collaboration with the association of women health professionals.
Around a hundred of them were also detected on site in the market administrator’s office set up for the occasion.
« Given that the empowerment of women is a complex and transversal issue which also affects aspects of their health, we also raise awareness on the health aspects which affect the mental health or physical health of women so that their general well-being can allow us to have results in terms of economic empowerment”, explained Aimée Manyong, president of the Network for the Promotion and Empowerment of Women, to Radio Okapi.
This mass awareness campaign targets women and girls. It is done in the local market, which has more than a thousand women within it.
About a hundred women showed up on Saturday and were registered for voluntary screening on site.
« After the voluntary screening, which is done on site, if there are cases that prove suspicious, we will refer them directly to Doctor Fany Malonga at Mwangeji General Hospital. And this is where she provides free support. If there are cases that are in a very advanced state, she also knows how to refer to her level in relation to her responsibilities, she knows how she will manage this “, continued Aimée Manyong.
