After several months of closure to all traffic, the Chez le Maçon bridge has been given a new lease of life and has just been reopened. Major work was carried out in 2024, from July to September, following the discovery of significant cracks in the structure. This work is part of the National Bridge Program carried out by the center for studies and expertise on risks, environment, mobility and development (Cerema), and proved necessary after an expertise carried out in 2023 by the Sites design office mandated by Cerema.
It is the community of communes of Vienne and Gartempe (CCVG) which is responsible for the management of 102 bridges on its territory and which managed, via its roads department, the work carried out by the company Sotec of Limoges. Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at the beginning of the afternoon, the elected officials of the municipality were present on the site to note the end of the work in the presence of Michel Jarrassier, president of the CCVG, and a representative of the company. The repair of the bridge cost 115,000 euros, nearly 50% of which was covered by the Bridge Program. « These works of art are essential for traffic in rural communitiesunderlined Christian Souille, deputy mayor, especially since they are subject to much greater loads and traffic frequencies than at the time of their construction. » Note that one of the cracks in the structure has been preserved, representing no danger to its solidity, because bats were discovered there. Monitoring will be carried out by the Vienne Nature association to determine the impact of the work on the lives of these bats.
